Or . . .

"Why would my library want its own version of Wikipedia?"

Wikipedia:

- The good

- Free

- Far more comprehensive in number of subjects covered than any print encyclopedia could ever be

- Representative of a diversity of viewpoints

- Provides links to additional resources of perhaps greater reliability

- The bad, and the ugly

"You see, any user can change any entry, and if enough other users agree with them, it becomes true.”

- Stephen Colbert, "The Word: Wikiality," The Colbert Report, July 31, 2006.

So, if we don't want to create our own version of "wikiality," what can we do with a wiki?

A wiki is -

  • A way to create web pages without web authoring software or HTML skills

  • "Web 1.0" tool for web authoring by an individual OR a "Web 2.0" tool designed for collaboration
