She was admitted to practice in both the District of Columbia and Ohio. Keith Ann has worked on information policy issues through the AALL Copyright and Government Relations Committees and has been very active in the effort to promote the Uniform Electronic Legal Material Act (UELMA), which recently became law in Illinois.

Sherwin Siy, Public Knowledge

Sherwin Siy joins us from Public Knowledge, an organization advocating for universal access to affordable and open networks, creativity through balanced copyright, government transparency, and protection of consumer rights. He will speak to us about net neutrality and the implications for first sale and copy ownership in the digital environment.

About the Speaker: Sherwin Siy is Vice President of Legal Affairs at Public Knowledge. He coordinates the organization’s work on copyright issues and analyzes their impact on domestic and international effects on IP and technology policy.

Sally Wiant, 3D Printing: From Thingiverse to Biofabrication

Professor Wiant will speak about 3D printing and the intellectual property issues that arise as this new medium becomes increasingly prevalent and accessible. Beginning with an introduction to the basic vocabulary and functionality of 3D printing, Professor Wiant will continue with a discussion about the legal issues at play. What are the copyrightable elements involved? Who owns copyright to the software, the design, or the printed object? We will also discuss 3D printing in libraries and the implications of making 3D printing services available to library patrons.

About the Speaker: Sally Wiant is Professor at Law at Washington and Lee University School of Law. Wiant's scholarship focuses on Copyright Law, Intellectual Property, Trademarks, Unfair Competition, and Admiralty Maritime Law. She has published extensive work in Copyright Law, including two books: Libraries and Copyright: A Guide to Copyright Law in the 1990’s, and Copyright Handbook. Her numerous book chapters can be found in the series of Specialized Legal Research, as well as in Developments in Copyright Law, and the Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science. She has written articles and columns for publications such as Virginia Lawyer, AALL.
